If you live in Dimondale, you already know the news: after 35 years behind the chair, Richard “Rick” Hicks has retired, and Rick’s Family Barber Shop at 111 N Bridge Street has closed its doors.
We want to share what comes next — because the chair isn’t going anywhere.
35 years of one of Dimondale’s own
Rick opened his shop in 1990 and spent the next three and a half decades cutting hair for generations of Dimondale families. Affordable cuts, easy conversation, and a place where nearly everyone knew each other’s name — that’s what Rick built. Dimondale’s village president put it best, calling him exactly what you picture when you imagine a small-town barber.
That kind of shop doesn’t get replaced. It gets carried on.
Cole Cutsss is keeping it a barbershop
When Rick decided to retire, Cole Davis — owner of Cole Cutsss Barbershop in Potterville — bought the shop. The goal was simple: keep 111 N Bridge St a barbershop, and keep serving the Dimondale community that depended on Rick for 35 years.
Cole Cutsss started in Potterville in 2024, grew to two barbers, and was named the Michigan House District 76 Small Business of the Month in January 2026. Now that same shop is taking over a Dimondale institution — same corner, same chair, with the fades, beard work, and full-time barbering Cole Cutsss is known for.
What’s happening now
The shop is being remodeled to reopen as Cole Cutsss. Update (July 2026): the date is set — we open Thursday, July 23, 2026. Read the grand opening announcement or visit the Dimondale location page for details.
If you were a regular at Rick’s and want to know the day we open, call (517) 881-4266 or email [email protected] and we’ll make sure you hear about it first.
Thank you, Rick
To Rick Hicks — thank you for 35 years of taking care of Dimondale. We don’t take it lightly that you trusted the next chapter of your shop to us, and we’ll do our best to honor what you built.
To everyone in Dimondale: the chair is staying in the community. We can’t wait to open the doors.
Until then, the Potterville shop at 121 S Hartel is open six days a week — book online or walk in.
