Lansing is the biggest population center near Cole Cutsss — around 14 miles to the northeast. Clients drive out from across Lansing every week for cuts they want to look right. The trip is about 20 minutes from most of Lansing, and the route is easy: I-496 west to Creyts or Lansing Street into Potterville.
If you live on the south side of Lansing, the drive is closer to 15 minutes. A second Cole Cutsss location is opening in Dimondale on the southern edge of Lansing — when that location opens it will be a 5–10 minute trip for south Lansing clients.
Why Lansing clients drive out to Cole’s
Lansing has dozens of barber options — chain shops, independent barbershops, classic-style places, modern fade-focused shops. Picking a barbershop in Lansing is not the problem. The reason Lansing clients drive out to Potterville is consistency.
One named barber, not “whoever is next.” At chain shops and high-turnover spots, you sit with whoever calls your name. The cut might be good, might be okay, might be inconsistent week to week. At Cole Cutsss, you book with Cole or Jacob specifically. Your barber remembers your preferences, knows what worked last time, and gives you the same cut every visit if that is what you want.
A full 30-minute appointment. Most chain shops are built around 12–18 minute cuts because that is how the economics work. A real fade — especially a bald fade — cannot be done well in 12 minutes. Our standard appointment is 30 minutes, and we use it.
Real consultation. Before any clippers come on, your barber asks what you want, looks at reference photos if you brought any, and makes recommendations based on your face shape and hair type. That step is what makes the difference between “fine” and “exactly what you wanted.”
Skilled fade and beard work. Bald fades, skin work, beard shaping — these are the services where craftsmanship actually shows. Cole and Jacob both cut these full-time, every day. Skill comes from reps, and they have the reps.
Where in Lansing our clients come from
We cut clients from every part of Lansing — south Lansing, downtown, west side, north side, and east Lansing. Some specific notes by area:
- South Lansing / Delta Township: Closest geographically. 15-minute drive on Lansing Street or via I-496 west. Most south Lansing regulars come once every 2–3 weeks for fades.
- Downtown Lansing / capitol area: About 20 minutes via I-496 west. Many of our downtown regulars work professional jobs and book a recurring Wednesday late-afternoon slot.
- West Lansing / Lansing Mall area: 20 minutes via Saginaw Street or M-43 to Lansing Street. Easy drive.
- East Lansing (MSU area): 25–30 minute drive. Smaller share of our clientele since east Lansing has its own barbershops, but we have regular MSU-area clients who prefer our work.
- North Lansing: 25 minutes via M-43 or I-69. Less common but a few regulars.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why drive from Lansing to a barber in Potterville?
Lansing has plenty of barbershops. Clients drive out to Cole Cutsss because they want a barber who takes the full 30-minute appointment for the cut, names the barbers (you book with Cole or Jacob — not whoever is next), and does fade and beard work at a craftsmanship level you do not find at chain shops. For most Lansing-area clients, the 20-minute drive is worth it for the consistency.
How long is the drive from Lansing?
About 20 minutes from most of Lansing. From the south side, take I-496 west and exit onto Creyts Road or Lansing Street into Potterville — closer to 15 minutes. From north or central Lansing, plan on 20 minutes through Delta Township into Potterville. From east Lansing the drive is 25–30 minutes.
Is there a Cole Cutsss closer to Lansing?
Yes — a second Cole Cutsss location is opening in Dimondale on the south edge of Lansing, which will be the closer option for clients on the south side of Lansing. Check the Dimondale location page for opening updates. For now, the Potterville shop is the active location.
What services do you offer?
All five core services: standard haircut ($23), bald fade ($26), haircut + beard ($28), beard trim ($10), and kids/senior haircuts ($20). Every appointment is booked as a 30-minute slot. See the Services page for details.
Do I need an appointment if I am driving up?
We recommend it. Book with Cole through Setmore for a specific time slot — you do not want to make the 20-minute drive and find a 45-minute walk-in wait. Jacob takes walk-ins too; if you are running errands in Potterville and a walk-in works for you, call ahead at (517) 881-4266 to check the queue.
What are your busiest times?
Saturday morning (7:30 AM – 12:00 PM) is our busiest window — Lansing clients especially tend to book Saturdays. If you want a Saturday slot, book at least a week ahead with Cole. Mid-week is quieter; Monday and Thursday mornings have the shortest walk-in waits.
